Lakshadweep Enforces Green Building Norms

IGBC Certification Now Mandatory for New Projects
Kavaratti | May 2025:
Lakshadweep administration has mandated Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) certifications for all upcoming real estate and hospitality projects across the Union Territory, starting with key islands like Kavaratti and Suheli.
The move aims to promote eco-conscious construction practices, reduce environmental impact, and preserve the fragile marine ecosystem of the archipelago. Developers are now required to integrate features such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy, natural ventilation, and sustainable materials into their plans.
Real estate experts welcome the directive, stating it will enhance the long-term value of properties and attract environment-focused investors, particularly in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
