Sikkim’s Digital Registry Expands to Namchi: Blockchain Ensures Transparent Land Records
In a significant step towards modernizing land ownership systems, Sikkim has extended its blockchain-based digital land registry to Namchi, marking a bold shift toward transparent, tamper-proof property transactions in South Sikkim.
This move follows the state government’s ongoing efforts to digitize land records across key regions. Namchi, now joining this initiative, becomes one of the few towns in India where property titles are recorded, stored, and managed through blockchain technology—a secure digital ledger system that ensures data integrity and real-time traceability.
Under the new system, landowners and buyers in Namchi can now verify ownership history, encumbrances, and title authenticity online, removing layers of bureaucratic delay and risk of document forgery. This reduces disputes, accelerates transactions, and brings greater investor confidence to the region’s growing real estate sector.
Officials from the Sikkim Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department confirm that the transition is aligned with national Digital India goals and is tailored for hilly terrains, where traditional paperwork and outdated registries often slow down transactions.
Namchi’s inclusion in the blockchain initiative is especially timely, given its surging residential and tourism-linked land demand. The digital titles are expected to boost investor participation, especially from out-of-state buyers who seek reliable land documentation.
As more districts are gradually added to the blockchain platform, Sikkim sets an example in using technology to safeguard property rights, encourage fair real estate practices, and ensure smoother governance of land assets.
