The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 empowers you to request official data from government departments—especially useful for verifying building plans, layout approvals, and land records.

 When to Use RTI:

  • To check if a project has approved building plans

  • To verify layout approvals or zoning compliance

  • To confirm land ownership, mutation, or encumbrance status

  • To uncover delays or irregularities in government processing

 How to File an RTI:

  1. Identify the Authority

    • For building plans: Municipal Corporation or Town Planning Department

    • For layout approvals: Urban Development Authority

    • For land records: Revenue Department or Sub-Registrar Office

  2. Visit the RTI Portal

    • For central departments:

    • For state-specific queries: Use your state’s RTI or land records portal

  3. Draft Your Query Clearly

    • Example: “Please provide a copy of the approved building plan for Survey No. XX, located in [Area], submitted by [Builder Name].”

  4. Pay the Fee

    • ₹10 via net banking, card, or UPI

    • BPL applicants are exempt (with proof)

  5. Submit & Track

    • Receive a registration number

    • Track status online

    • Expect a reply within 30 days

if no response, file a First Appeal under RTI Act.
