Tura Adds 300 EWS Homes, Sales Jump 10%

Tura, a key urban center in western Meghalaya, is witnessing a notable boost in affordable housing with the expansion of the Housing Mission, which has added 300 new EWS (Economically Weaker Section) units. This move is aimed at addressing the growing demand for low-income housing and ensuring inclusivity in the region's urban development.
These newly launched units are priced affordably between Rs 15–25 lakh, making them highly accessible for low- and middle-income families, especially tribal households and daily wage earners. The initiative, part of the broader Meghalaya Housing Policy, ensures that housing remains within reach for vulnerable sections while promoting urban equity and structured growth.
According to local developers and government sources, this new phase of housing has resulted in a 10% surge in sales, with most inquiries coming from first-time buyers and local workers seeking permanent shelter. The units are being developed with essential amenities including basic sanitation, electricity, paved access roads, and community facilities.
This development is also expected to reduce urban slums, create job opportunities in construction, and uplift the overall quality of life in Tura. Analysts note that such targeted efforts reflect the state’s commitment to inclusive housing and can become a model for other towns in Meghalaya.
