Tura Sees 10% Rise in Home Sales After NH Upgrade

Tura, one of the key urban centers in Meghalaya's Garo Hills, is witnessing a notable upswing in its real estate activity—particularly in the residential housing segment. Thanks to infrastructure upgrades along the NH-206, sales of 1–2 BHK homes have increased by 10%, with current prices ranging between Rs 20 to 35 lakh.
The NH-206 road expansion and modernization project has significantly improved connectivity between Tura and adjoining towns, making it easier for local workers to commute and access urban amenities. This has resulted in growing interest among lower- and middle-income groups to invest in homes near well-connected corridors.
The properties most in demand are affordable housing units, particularly those located near industrial zones, government offices, and educational institutions. Many local developers are now tailoring projects to suit the needs of Tura’s working population, with compact layouts, basic modern amenities, and close proximity to upgraded roads.
The real estate trend is also being supported by government-backed housing schemes and credit-linked subsidies that make it easier for first-time buyers to enter the market. Local realtors and developers report quicker closing times and increased site visits after the NH-206 revamp.
In the long term, this trend could spur the creation of small residential clusters and townships on the outskirts of Tura, ultimately contributing to planned urban expansion in the Garo Hills region.
In essence, better roads are building better lives—and Tura’s housing market is a clear example of how infrastructure directly influences the growth and accessibility of real estate.
