Blockchain-Based Titles Aim to Curb Land Disputes

The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has officially launched a blockchain-based digital land registry system in Jammu, marking a significant milestone in property record modernization. The initiative is aimed at ensuring tamper-proof land titles, reducing disputes, and boosting investor confidence, especially in residential plot markets.

By leveraging blockchain technology, land ownership records will now be digitally recorded, traceable, and irreversible, making fraudulent claims or duplication of titles virtually impossible. The registry will also simplify the property verification process, which has historically been a hurdle in real estate transactions across the region.

Officials stated that this pilot launch in Jammu will be followed by a phased rollout across other districts, including Srinagar and Katra. Real estate agents and developers have welcomed the move, citing increased transparency, faster approvals, and renewed interest from NRI and private investors.

Legal experts say this digitization will also help streamline court cases related to land disputes, while improving government revenue tracking through better documentation.
