Kolkata’s Affordable Housing Jumps 12%

Kolkata’s Affordable Housing Up 12% in Konnagar
The affordable housing sector in Konnagar, a growing suburb of Kolkata, has witnessed a 12% surge in sales, driven by new EWS (Economically Weaker Section) housing projects and infrastructure support from KMDA (Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority).
Priced between Rs 25–40 lakh, these housing units are designed for first-time homebuyers and low-income families. The developments feature basic amenities, improved connectivity, and proximity to industrial hubs, making them ideal for daily wage earners, factory workers, and entry-level professionals.
KMDA’s initiatives, including land subsidies, faster approvals, and guided project execution, have helped attract both private developers and cooperative housing societies to invest in Konnagar. The area has also benefitted from enhanced transport links to central Kolkata and Howrah, via suburban rail and road networks.
Real estate analysts suggest that the positive sales trend signals a revival in Kolkata’s affordable housing segment, especially in fringe areas with growth potential. With rising urban migration and demand for budget homes, Konnagar is expected to remain a key focus zone for EWS housing in 2025.
