WB Launches Digital Land Titles in Siliguri

West Bengal Rolls Out Digital Land Registry in Siliguri
In a major leap toward real estate transparency, West Bengal has launched a blockchain-based digital land registry system in Siliguri, aiming to curb land disputes and boost investor trust in both residential and commercial realty markets.
This initiative, led by the State Land Reforms Department, marks a turning point in how land titles are managed. By leveraging blockchain technology, every land record becomes tamper-proof, transparent, and traceable—offering clear ownership history, instant verification, and a reduction in fraudulent claims.
Siliguri, a strategic city connecting North Bengal with the Northeast, has seen growing interest from real estate developers and buyers. With land values rising, particularly in the Matigara and Sevoke Road corridors, the digital registry system is expected to streamline transactions, attract more institutional investment, and reduce legal overhead.
Officials confirmed that over 10,000 land parcels in and around Siliguri have already been digitized, with QR-coded ownership certificates being issued to property holders. The next phase will expand to Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts.
This initiative aligns with the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) and is expected to pave the way for faster loan approvals, secure property investments, and efficient land transfers.
