The release of the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) results by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has triggered a noticeable increase in real estate activity in Shillong, especially in Rynjah—a locality popular among families due to its proximity to reputed schools.

Local brokers and property developers have reported a surge in inquiries from parents looking to shift closer to educational institutions ahead of the new academic year. With many schools in Rynjah and nearby areas such as Nongrim Hills and Laitumkhrah being known for strong academic performance, the neighborhood has become a preferred choice for families valuing educational access.

This demand uptick is not limited to rentals. Several families are also considering property purchases, particularly 2 and 3 BHK apartments ranging between ₹45 lakh and ₹65 lakh. Builders offering ready-to-move or soon-to-be-completed flats are receiving the highest attention. Real estate agents say that rentals for family-friendly homes in Rynjah have also increased by about 8–10% year-on-year, with current rates hovering between ₹15,000–₹25,000/month depending on amenities.

Additionally, schools with hostel facilities and coaching centers in the area have indirectly driven demand for single-room units and PG accommodations for students and teaching staff. This seasonal trend is expected to continue through June, peaking around admission deadlines.

Experts also point to a broader trend where educational results and institutional reputations are now becoming major factors influencing residential mobility in urban centers like Shillong.
