Smart City Talk Spurs 10% Plot Demand in Shillong

A recent panel discussion hosted by Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) on Shillong’s Smart City development has triggered renewed public and investor interest, especially in Mawdiangdiang, one of the city’s most promising real estate zones. The session, which focused on the infrastructure upgrades, mobility plans, and digital governance under the Smart City Mission, has resulted in a 10% spike in inquiries for commercial plots in the area.
Urban planners and experts on the panel highlighted upcoming road expansions, utility improvements, and commercial infrastructure as part of Phase 2 development, signaling long-term growth potential. Mawdiangdiang, strategically located with access to health, education, and administrative centers, is now being eyed as the next commercial hub of Shillong.
According to local property consultants, current prices for commercial plots in Mawdiangdiang range between Rs 2,000–3,200 per sq ft, with increasing buyer interest from institutional investors, business owners, and local entrepreneurs. The buzz from the DDK panel has also encouraged a surge in property site visits, calls for plot availability, and early bookings.
As Shillong continues its transformation into a digitally enabled, environmentally conscious Smart City, zones like Mawdiangdiang are expected to become key engines of economic activity and real estate appreciation.
