Kolkata’s First REIT Targets Commercial Growth

West Bengal’s First REIT Proposed
In a landmark development for the state’s real estate sector, West Bengal is set to launch its first Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), focused on commercial properties in New Town and Salt Lake. The proposed REIT aims to attract both retail and institutional investors, marking a new chapter in the formalization and democratization of real estate investment in the region.
The REIT is expected to include Grade A office spaces, IT parks, and mixed-use commercial complexes, leveraging the growing demand from tech firms, startups, and co-working operators. These areas have seen consistent leasing activity and infrastructure growth, making them ideal candidates for inclusion in the trust.
Experts suggest that the REIT could boost transparency, enhance investor confidence, and channel significant capital into Kolkata’s commercial real estate market. Additionally, it would offer investors a chance to earn rental income without directly owning or managing property.
The state government and private developers are working together to finalize regulatory frameworks and asset selection, with a formal launch expected by the end of 2025.
